DEHEM 2021 has started!

Our Goals

  • To leverage social media to promote discussions, inclusion, and belonging of disability in higher education spaces
  • To create a safe space to share stories of ableist experiences through anonymous stories, retweets, twitter takeovers, etc.
  • To address underlying problems disabled individuals in higher education face.
  • To provide resources and events that bring awareness to the experiences of disabled individuals in higher education.
  • To raise awareness among allies about how to create accessible academic/workplace spaces.

Our Mission

  • To empower disabled students and professionals by connecting them to resources, opportunities, and other disabled people in their field through Twitter.
  • To foster discussions and invite members of the disabled in higher education community to share stories that raise awareness about ableist policies and experiences that disabled individuals in higher education go through.
  • To raise awareness among allies about how to change academic spaces to make them accessible.

Black and Disabled Discord Community

In a higher education system where disability advocacy exemplifies #DisabilityTooWhite and black spaces are gripped by #ableism, where does that leave Black and Disabled Academics, graduate or undergraduate students? We seek to amplify a perspective that is often silent and unseen.

Join our Discord community to connect with Black disabled people in higher education. Contact Syreeta Nolan for information via email at snolan.jade@gmail.com
or via direct message on Twitter @nolan_syreeta.
